Updated 26 July 2026: Current Abu Dhabi guidance uses “monthly salary” of at least AED 30,000. It does not state that only basic salary counts. Applicants must also show six months of bank statements and meet the occupation and education rules.
The UAE Golden Visa salary requirement is often reduced to one sentence: earn AED 30,000 and you qualify. That is incomplete.
The salary figure is only one part of the skilled-professional route. Your job classification, degree, UAE employment record and supporting documents still matter. The wording used by the authority also matters when your package includes allowances.

As an HR Career Specialist, I have seen strong employees treat a salary threshold as a guarantee. Immigration decisions do not work that way. The number opens the door. The evidence decides whether the file passes through it.
In one composite case I reviewed, a professional’s offer exceeded AED 30,000 but the contract, payroll record and bank deposits described the package differently. I advised the applicant to reconcile the records before applying. In another, the salary qualified but the registered occupation did not. I would check both before spending money on the application.
What the official AED 30,000 rule says
The Abu Dhabi skilled-professional page, updated on 24 July 2026, lists these criteria:
- You must be employed in the UAE.
- Your role must fall within MOHRE occupational Level 1 or Level 2.
- You need at least a bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
- Your monthly salary must be at least AED 30,000.
- You need a valid UAE practising licence when your profession requires one.
The evidence list includes an approved employment contract, proof of the role classification, an attested degree, an employment certificate, a salary certificate and six months of bank statements showing monthly salary of at least AED 30,000.
This is current Abu Dhabi guidance. Dubai and federal application routes can request different evidence, so confirm the checklist through GDRFA, Amer or ICP before paying.
Does AED 30,000 mean basic salary or total salary?
The current official wording says “monthly salary”. It does not say “basic salary only”, and it does not explain how housing, transport or other allowances are treated.
That leaves three common cases:
Your basic salary is AED 30,000 or more
This is the clearest salary position. Your employment contract, salary certificate and bank records should still show consistent amounts. A high salary will not correct an ineligible occupation or missing degree.
Your total monthly salary is AED 30,000 or more, but basic salary is lower
Do not assume approval or rejection. Ask the authority handling your application whether it will count the full salary shown on your certificate and bank records. Use the answer for your route and emirate, not a general answer from an agent serving another emirate.
Get the answer in writing where possible. If an Amer centre, ICP channel or Abu Dhabi service team asks for a different salary breakdown, keep that message with your file.
Your total salary is below AED 30,000
The skilled-professional salary route is unlikely to fit. Check whether you qualify through property investment, entrepreneurship, research, an exceptional-talent nomination or a graduate route. The full UAE Golden Visa eligibility guide compares the main categories.
Why changing your salary structure is not a simple fix
Some applicants ask HR to move money from allowances into basic salary while keeping the same total package. That can create a cleaner basic-salary figure, but it is not a cost-free wording change.
UAE end-of-service gratuity is generally calculated using basic salary. Raising basic pay can increase an employer’s future gratuity liability. It may also affect payroll records, the employment contract and internal pay policy.
Before requesting a change, read the UAE gratuity calculation guide and the basic salary versus total package guide. Then speak to HR with a clear reason and realistic expectations.
A useful request is:
“I am checking my eligibility for the skilled-professional Golden Visa route. The current guidance asks for AED 30,000 monthly salary and supporting employment records. Could you confirm the salary amounts recorded in my contract, salary certificate and payroll records before I apply?”
This asks for facts before asking the employer to change anything.
The six-month salary evidence test
The Abu Dhabi document list asks for six months of bank statements showing monthly salary of at least AED 30,000. Applicants often focus on the contract and forget the payment trail.
Check each statement for:
- Your name and account details
- The employer’s payment description
- The monthly amount and payment date
- Missing months, split payments or unexplained differences
- Agreement with the salary certificate and employment contract
A bonus, expense repayment or one-off transfer should not be treated as normal monthly salary without confirmation from the authority. If your salary changed recently, ask whether six full months at the new level are required before applying.
Do not edit bank statements or combine pages in a way that hides information. Download complete statements from the bank and follow the file requirements shown in the application portal.
Your job and degree still have to qualify
Level 1 covers managers and business executives. Level 2 covers professionals across fields such as science, engineering, health, education, business, information technology, law, sociology and culture.
Your job title on a CV does not decide the classification. The registered occupation in the employment system matters. Ask HR for the exact title and classification attached to your work record.
The degree must also meet the authority’s evidence standard. An attested certificate proves authenticity. An equivalency or recognition document assesses the academic qualification for UAE use. One does not always replace the other.
Doctors, pharmacists, teachers and other regulated professionals may need an active practising licence. A lapsed or emirate-specific licence can delay the application even when the salary is high enough.
Salary documents to collect
Prepare these before starting the application:
- Approved UAE employment contract
- Recent employment certificate
- Recent employer salary certificate
- Six complete monthly bank statements
- Proof of the registered occupation and classification
- Attested bachelor’s degree or equivalent
- Equivalency evidence if requested
- Professional licence where required
Use the same spelling of your name across every document. Check that the job title, employer and dates agree. Resolve differences before submission rather than explaining them after a request for more documents.
Which authority should you ask?
Use the channel that will decide your application:
- Dubai: GDRFA Dubai or an authorised Amer centre
- Abu Dhabi: Abu Dhabi Residents Office or the linked TAMM route
- Other emirates and federal routes: ICP smart services or an authorised typing centre
If you are moving from an employer-sponsored residence, also understand how your UAE employment visa and work permit interact with the new residence. Do not cancel your current status until the responsible authority tells you to do so.
Frequently asked questions
Can allowances count towards AED 30,000?
Current official Abu Dhabi wording does not provide a public breakdown between basic salary and allowances. Confirm how your salary certificate will be assessed through the channel handling your application.
Do I need six months of bank statements?
Abu Dhabi’s current skilled-professional requirements list six months of statements showing monthly salary of at least AED 30,000. Other routes may request different evidence.
Can I qualify with AED 30,000 salary but no bachelor’s degree?
Not under the published skilled-professional criteria, which require at least a bachelor’s degree or equivalent. Another Golden Visa category may fit if you meet its separate rules.
Will a salary increase make me immediately eligible?
Not necessarily. The authority may require a payment history at the qualifying level. Ask how many months of evidence are needed before changing your contract or filing the application.
The safest answer to the AED 30,000 question is precise: it is a monthly salary threshold within a wider eligibility test. Match the role, degree and records before treating the figure as your route to approval.
