Which authority licenses nurses in Dubai?
The Dubai Health Authority, known as DHA, licenses healthcare professionals who work in Dubai. Applications use the Sheryan system.
If you plan to work in another emirate, the authority may differ. Abu Dhabi uses the Department of Health. MOHAP covers facilities under its jurisdiction. Always apply through the authority linked to the job location.

DHA offers an online self-assessment for prospective healthcare professionals. It checks your qualifications and experience against the title you choose.

Main documents for nurse registration
The exact documents depend on your title and history. Prepare clear copies of:

What qualifications does DHA accept?
DHA follows the UAE’s Unified Healthcare Professional Qualification Requirements. The current requirements cover recognised nursing education, registration, experience and gaps in practice.

Your course length and level matter. Distance, honorary or unrecognised qualifications may not meet the rules. Choose the title that matches your real education and licence.
DHA registration is not yet an active licence
After DHA accepts your eligibility and registration, a licensed healthcare facility must activate the professional licence. Registration confirms that you meet the title requirements. Activation links you to the employer and allows you to practise.

When does the work visa process start?
The healthcare employer handles the work permit and residence steps. The professional licence and visa processes connect, but they are not the same.
MOHRE’s overseas work permit service lists a professional licence among the documents needed for regulated jobs such as nursing. It also requires a signed official job offer, a valid passport copy and other supporting documents.
