Saudisation Explained: What Nobody in HR Will Tell You

What Saudisation Actually Means for Your Job

Saudisation, officially called Nitaqat, requires private sector companies to employ a minimum percentage of Saudi nationals. If you are an expat, this directly affects whether your job exists next year.

How the Nitaqat System Works

Companies are classified into bands: Platinum, Green, Yellow, and Red. Platinum and Green companies get full access to visa services. Yellow companies face restrictions. Red companies are blocked from hiring or renewing expat visas. Your employer’s band determines your visa security.

The Sectors Most Affected

Retail has the highest targets. Hospitality and tourism are expanding while increasing Saudi employment targets. Financial services have high Saudisation ratios. Technology and healthcare have lower requirements. Construction faces increasing pressure for office-based roles.

What This Means for Your Career Strategy

If your role can be filled by a Saudi national at equivalent quality and lower cost, your position has an expiration date. Build expertise the local market cannot yet supply. Mentor Saudi colleagues genuinely. Diversify geographically.

The Human Side of Policy

Saudisation creates tension in mixed teams. The best workplaces address this directly with clear performance-based expectations. If you are in a leadership role, managing this dynamic is part of your job.
