UAE Golden Visa Salary Requirement: What Nobody in HR Will Tell You
UAE Golden Visa Salary Requirement: What Nobody in HR Will Tell You
The Golden Visa changed the expat equation in the UAE. A ten-year residency visa that is not tied to your employer. No sponsor required. Your family stays even if you lose your job.
The AED 30,000 Rule
To qualify as a skilled professional, you must earn a monthly salary of at least 30,000 AED. This is your contracted salary, not your total package. You must hold a bachelor’s degree classified at Level 1 by the Ministry of Education.
What Counts Toward the 30,000 AED
Basic salary plus fixed contractual allowances. Variable bonuses, overtime, and discretionary payments do not count.

Your WPS record must support the salary stated in your contract. GDRFA cross-references your application against WPS data.
The Application Process
Apply through the ICA website or the GDRFA portal. Required documents: valid passport, current UAE residence visa, employment contract showing salary, attested degree certificate.
Processing time: 30 to 90 days. Cost: approximately 2,800-3,800 AED.
The Salary Restructuring Strategy
If your current salary is below 30,000 AED, negotiate a salary increase or ask HR to consolidate everything into the main employment contract.
What does not work: inflating your salary on paper without corresponding WPS payments.
What the Golden Visa Changes Practically
You are no longer dependent on your employer for residency. Your family’s visas are sponsored under your Golden Visa, not your employer. You can access longer-term financial planning options.
The Golden Visa is not just an immigration benefit. It is a financial and career strategy tool.
I write about the decisions that actually shape careers, not the ones that look good on paper.
